Gluten Free diet Reduces Bone Problems in Children with Celiac Disease

Mum Mum’s recently discussed a new study explaining that the high risk of osteoporosis in persons with celiac disease may be due to an additional autoimmune response on bone protein.  Diagnosing celiac disease as early as possible, particularly in childhood, can prevent many of the secondary conditions that occur as a result of continued gluten ingestion.  A new study found a gluten free diet can help kids reduce future bone problems. For Food Allergic Kids, Parents and Schools Step Up

There has undoubtedly been an increase in the numbers of children with food allergies over the past several years.  While it may not necessarily mean greater numbers of children are effected, improvements in means of diagnosis along with increased awareness by physicians and healthcare providers has helped to bring previously undiagnosed allergies to light. Despite the increased awareness, there is still much to learn about coping with food allergies, especially those that are life threatening.  A recent survey attempted to find out just how much  people  do know.

The Prevalence of Gluten-sensitive Enteropathy in Iron Deficient Anemia Patients

Gluten Sensitive Enteropathy (GSE), more commonly known as celiac disease, is a genetically predisposed autoimmune disorder in which inflammation and gradual deterioration of the small intestine occurs upon the ingestion of the wheat protein gluten.  Previously thought to be a rare disease, celiac is becoming more and more common as recent studies have found celiac to be one of the most frequently occurring genetically based diseases worldwide.
