Babies Need Cuddles, Love, and Stimulation to Aid Healthy Brains

Once you hold your newborn baby for the first time, you might keep him snuggled up next to you for hours at a time.  There is sound reason for this maternal instinct as snuggling, or love and affection, is as important to babies as the food they eat as and is necessary for healthy development and brain maturation.  Just as an infant cannot be deprived of proper nourishment, a recent warning from a health expert claims that lack of attention can be equally detrimental.

Game Predicts Kindergarten Achievement

A few months ago, Mum Mum’s reported a story explaining that kindergarteners were lacking adequate playtime as a result of schools making curriculum more difficult to prepare kindergarten kids for elementary school. Other scholastic experts, however, feel many kids enter first grade ill prepared. A new game has been developed that is both fun for kids and a good predictor of learning ability.

Newsweek Reports: But I Did Everything Right!

Current technology can provide modern parents with more than ample parenting advice.  Since the first parenting book arrived in 1811; thousands of books, DVD’s, and websites attempt to provide insight into “best″ parenting practices the minute a new child development study is revealed.  Yet despite a parent’s best efforts, sometimes kids just don’t turn out as expected.  As a Newsweek story this week discusses, parenting skills may have to compete with genetics.

University of Oregon Study Finds Good Parenting Raises Kids' Mental Skills

A Study on Food and Brain Development

A new ongoing study has been launched by Agriculture Research Service (ARS) funded scientists, in conjunction with the USDA, examining how nutrition and diet regime affect an infant’s central nervous system development from birth.  Using non-invasive tools; infants, toddlers, and school-aged children will be assessed for neurological and physiological development from birth.
