Mom’s Voice Plays Special Role in Activating Newborn’s Brain

Mums spend 9 months talking to their tummies and that little being inside.  From singing songs to asking ‘why must you stretch your feet out right there’; the baby is listening and also getting used to the sounds you make while still in your tummy.  As it turns out knowing your voice does more than just mommy recognition.   A new study found out that a mother’s voice is not only recognized by a newborn, but it actually stimulates important parts of their brain. Relationship Strengthening Class Improves Life for New Families

Although 9 months may seem like forever when you’re waiting, once the baby arrives new parents find no amount of time can truly prepare  a person for this life changing event.  Having a baby changes everything, even the relationship between parents.  Conflicts can increase while support may decrease, as previous studies have shown, but some new research found that a few relationship classes may alleviate this problem.

The Green Guide to Holiday Shopping

We’ve discussed safe toy shopping, but what about those concerned about environmental safety? Heart Assocation Tips for Getting Kids to Eat Vegetables and Fruit

Breastfeeding Mothers Don’t Get Less Sleep

Mum Mum’s recently reported that women respond more than men to baby’s needs during the night. Although women may not be surprised by that study, it is certainly a concern when planning to have a baby since generations of mums warn there will be many sleepless nights ahead.  This concern often affects a woman’s choice to breastfeed or not, thinking breastfeeding might mean even less sleep but a recent study found this is not the case at all. Oh, the notorious sleepless nights of parenthood.  Combine that with mother’s intuition and it is a wonder new mums get any shut eye at all.  It seems that when it comes to night time cries from baby, mums are more likely to respond.  No offense to dads of course, but new research discovered that even if both parents are working mums are twice as likely to interrupt their sleep to care for others.
