Following on the heels of Earth Day, many families may have a renewed passion for caring for the environment. When examining daily life, there are many ways families can reduce waste and excess by utilizing simple methods like recycling and taking shorter showers for example. Breastfeeding in itself is a green practice as it provides optimal health for infants and doesn’t require the use of bottles and eliminates the need for formula.
Breastfeeding just got even greener as a new product has hit the market that boasts less waste in landfills. Hygeia II Medical Group announced the creation of the Hygeia EnJoye breastpump that was designed and FDA approved for multi-person use.
Last year the US reached the largest baby boom in history, with four million infants being born annually. A conservative estimate found about two million breastpumps are being purchased by new parents, except most breastpumps are designed for single users and end up in landfills after a short period of time.
Hospitals are no strangers to re-usable breastpumps, but the average consumer cannot afford such an expensive piece of equipment which is also difficult to transport. Hygeia has utilized this technology to create a breastpump that is affordable, portable, and safe for re-use amongst mothers with the purchase of only a new personal accessory kit. Included in the accessory kit are all parts that touch a mother or mother’s milk.
Hygeia, named after the Greek goddess of health, is committed to supporting breastfeeding in addition making the earth a greener place for new mothers and babies. Prodcuts from Hygeia are made by professionals with personal and industry experience who would like to create a different kind of breastfeeding products company. The green breastpump can also features a reusable lithium battery instead of typical AA batteries that also end up in landfills.
