Stanford Study Reveals how Breastfeeding Transfers Immunity to Babies

It was previously unknown exactly how this mechanism worked, but as the post explains a new study made a prominent discovery. Researchers from Brigham Young University Stanford-Harvard found the molecule responsible for a mother’s ability to pass on her immunity called CCR10. For years prior to pregnancy, CCR10 circulates through a mother’s bloodstream sometimes taking a different path to the intestines for protection against pathogens. When lactating, however, the molecule travels directly to the mammary glands allowing baby to ingest the antibodies to provide protection while building up his own immunity.
