California Weighs Chemical Ban in Baby Bottles
In keeping with the reputation of being a progressive US state, California is once again ahead of the curve in child safety efforts.  The post explains California has proposed legislature banning the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in food containers and products designed for children under 3 years of age.  BPA has been shown in study to present serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as children and expecting women.

Newsweek Reports: But I Did Everything Right!
Since the advent of the first parenting book in 1811, modern science has continued to provide evolving best parenting practices.  While more parents than ever are seeking parenting advice via books, websites, and DVD’s; the post explains that a new Newsweek story states some kids just don’t turn out as expected despite a parent’s best efforts.

Approximately 30% of children have a genetic glitch in their DNA, one that is relative to a child’s behavior.  This glitch is a decreased amount of dopamine receptors, which in study has been linked to the inability to control self-destructive behavior as well as not being able to learn from mistakes.  The majority of children in child development studies do indeed behave the way researchers anticipate, yet there are inevitably a small percentage of children who do not.  Instead of ignoring these anomalies, researchers are now studying these children to provide insight into why kids do what they do.
